🌸 March Challenge: M is for Mozart

Wed Mar 4 - Fri Apr 3
Event by Team

This March, M is for Mozart — and for springtime clarity.

After all the color and rubato of the Romantic challenge, it’s time to clean the palette. Mozart asks for balance, lightness, and real control. There’s nowhere to hide, and that’s exactly why he’s so good for us.

Choose one Mozart piece (or even just an exposition or theme) and stick with it for four weeks.

Each week we’ll focus on something specific:

  • Balance and evenness

  • Articulation and touch

  • Phrase and structure

  • Taste and performance

Short excerpts are absolutely welcome. All levels are welcome.

If you’re in, comment below with what you’re playing. Let’s make March clear, elegant, and focused!

I think I'll just watch from the sidelines this time around. We'll be gone for the month, and my father just passed, so I'm not sure I'll have the energy for this challenge. But I'll enjoy all the submissions everyone posts! I hope y'all have a wonderful month of Mozart.

    I would like to play the 1st mov’t of the 18th sonata (K. 576).

Fantasia No. 4 in C minor, K. 475, and if there's time leftover, the "attached" sonata K.457.

Does anyone have fingering ideas or general tips/suggestions for the fast right-hand sixteenth notes in in measures 56-57 of Sonata No. 7 K. 309?

Probably the main issue here is that big downward jump from b to g in bar 57.  Choice of fingering will help with success.

Here is how I would finger the right hand starting in the middle of bar 54.

      143  143  154  243  1342  1341  3452  1354  1342  1341  3452  3

Initially, I had something different but opted for this after realizing it kept me more balanced and focused on the beat.

I will try that. Thank you!

I just experimented with many possible fingerings and what I think works best is (starting with the sixteenth notes) 1231 2341 2342 3454 1231 2341 3453 4.

This is initially what I had.  Probably the more common approach and precisely why I opted to play it as Ingrid Häbler would have ;-)

My fingering is very similar to yours. From the fast notes in bar 56: 1231 2341 3451 3453 and the rest identical to yours.

your 1231 2341 is identical to mine, too.
