I’m afraid I need to withdraw since I won’t be available on the day of the récital.  Hope everyone has a great time!

Gail Starr Hey Gail that sounds like a blast. I can just see the headlines now: "City braces for invasion of girl pianists:  shops doubling down on coffee and bagel supplies".  If your posse ever makes it to Boston, please look me up if you're so inclined.  I'd love to crash one of your coffee clatches if that were allowed!

Is it too late to submit videos of performance?  If it's still possible, where should they be sent?

  • I’d love to participate and help hold up the banner for those of us who are beginning or early intermediate pianists. I’m submitting two, very short pieces from Karen Tanaka’s Love in the Wind: 1) Spring Light and (2) The Gift Sweater.

Tanaka is such a wonderful composer! These two are among her most accessible pieces for fledgling pianists, but I think they still carry her identifiable sound and special appeal.

Here’s the video (recorded last week):

    • Peter Golemme Thanks so much, Peter! Tanaka has composed a number of very varied and beautiful pieces for piano, as well as some orchestral pieces and chamber works. Many of her piano works are beyond my current abilities but, I think, absolutely worth looking into!

Hi Dominic, I'm sorry for not being able to attend and play in the Springtime Recital as I expected.  Here a video of the two pieces "together" that I was going to play as if they had an inner "secret" connection.

Juan Carlos Olite Very beautiful Juan Carlos.  The key of Ab seems to suit you especially well.! -- and you reveal how Schumann really captured something essential about Chopin, and then we see how Chopin 'out-Chopins' his fellow composer in this Etude.

Hi Dominic Cheli  if it's not too late to join, I'd like to perform the F# minor Prelude and Fugue from Book 2 of the Well Tempered Clavier. This would be my first time performing a classical piece from memory for an audience in about 25 years, and I'm finding myself quite nervous about it.  Technically, these are among the 'easier' pairs in the WTC but I've had great difficulty in both the memorization and interpretation of them. No better way to test those out than a live performance!

I've been encouraged by certain ToneBase colleagues (you know who you are!) to give it a try from memory, and if it should all fall apart, well, at least I'll be among friends!

I'm also working on a video which I'll post when ready, either here and/or to our Bach thread.

If you can't fit this in to today's program, that's fine, I'll be there listening and enjoying the others nonetheless....
