🎹 Summer Community Concert

Choose something you’ve been working on — a piece you’re polishing, revisiting, or finally ready to share. All styles and levels are welcome.

How to participate:

• Reply below with the piece you’ll be playing
• Share a recording, or let us know if you’d like to play live

Recordings will be shared as time allows. Thank you, as always, for the care you bring to your playing and to this community.

Looking forward to hearing what you’ve been up to at the piano.

General information and Guidelines below!

Reply to this topic with your name and repertoire selection if you would like to perform! If you don't know what you want to play yet, you can always just let us know your intent!

ABOUT TONEBASE COMMUNITY CONCERTS:

These events are NOT live-streamed OR recorded, but are private zoom meetings where tonebase members can share their hard work and perform for each other!

These concerts can be played LIVE, or if you can't attend, you can submit a recording!

This is a GENEROUS and SUPPORTIVE space.

Performing is one of the best ways to push yourself, and really evaluate the work/progress you have made!

Repertoire is open to any piece!

Memorization is NOT required.

You can play select movements, or even sections of pieces! No need to perform a complete work!

Playing the piano is fun, but sharing your music with others is one of life's great joys. Join in on the fun and cheer each other on!

FOR OPTIMIZING YOUR ZOOM SETTINGS PLEASE SEE THE SHORT VIDEOS BELOW!

Because we use zoom for these concerts, it is important to have the best audio and visual settings available!

As said previously, I will submit my recording of Rachmaninoff's Sonata no.2 - III. Allegro molto, even if the picture quality is horrible.

I will play live - Beeth op.101, first two movements, unless time permits more.

Would I be going against the spirit of this event if I submitted a recording and attended?

Will there be other events that are just for recordings?

Certainly, submit a recording! This happens frequently and for various reasons.

Including because a person is too terrified to play live? lol.

Yes, including because a person is too terrified to play live! For my part, I'm happy to sing live but don't enjoy the playing live experience. My son and I collaborated at the last community concert (he played, I sang) - we might do that again this time.

You and Thurmond should do more Lieder together. You guys did a great job!

Thanks,  . I think I enjoy it more than Thurmond does. Now, if we start learning some Debussy, then he'll have a challenging piano part!  I'm pretty sure I'm learning an English art song next, then either something in French or maybe Brahms' Wiegenlied (or another Schubert). 🙂

In terms of Schubert Lieder, I recommend Die Forelle, Gretchen Am Spinnrade, and Das Wandern. Erlkönig is harder to sing, but it has a challenging piano part!

I love Gretchen Am Spinnrade, but am not quite ready to tackle that one. I'll look more closely at Die Forelle and we have the music for Das Wandern here - Thurmond may have sung that one, but I can't remember if that's one he did or not. He's learning something from Die Winterreise now.

Oh, great! If you are not ready to learn Gretchen am Spinnrade, I imagine that you are also probably not ready for Erlkönig as it is quite hard! Das Wandern and Die Forelle are easier.

Hi everyone, I will play the last movement from Mozart's Sonata in B flat K333 if time permits! I should be able to play this live.

    Count me in!

Hopefully I'll have something ready from the same list I've been working from for the last few events.  My Rachmaninoff Bbm Prelude, after I get through a "Week 4" version from the Unfinished Business challenge, might well be ready, as well as possibly a new Bach WTC pair, and one of the other Rach Preludes I've got in the pipeline.

I too am scared to death of performing classical music live from memory, but these concerts are the perfect opportunity to "practice" that skill, in a safe environment,  before a  friendly, supportive, and sympathetic audience, many of whom are equally scared of the same thing!

I plan to participate. I will either play a Chopin waltz, the Mozart Sonata movement I wasn't able to perform in the Mozart challenge, or potentially the Wandererfantasie!
