ABOUT TONEBASE COMMUNITY CONCERTS:

These events are NOT live-streamed OR recorded, but are private zoom meetings where tonebase members can share their hard work and perform for each other!

These concerts can be played LIVE, or if you can't attend, you can submit a recording!

This is a GENEROUS and SUPPORTIVE space.

Performing is one of the best ways to push yourself, and really evaluate the work/progress you have made!

Repertoire is open to any piece!

Memorization is NOT required.

You can play select movements, or even sections of pieces! No need to perform a complete work!

Playing the piano is fun, but sharing your music with others is one of life's great joys. Join in on the fun and cheer each other on!

Hey Sindre, why don't you try something ambitious for a change??!

You are just gobbling up large swaths of challenging repertoire.  I'll really be looking forward to hearing your take on this masterpiece.

Haha, well thanks, Peter! I love using these concerts to try out new material and get a "run through". Also signing up with this one gives me a push to actually finish learning it! :D
Very much looking forward to hear whatever you will end up playing!

I would like to participate live. Not sure what I'll play yet, either a Brahms Intermezzo or Chopin Prelude.

I plan to continue on with Bach Partita #4. So this time, the Allemande and if time permits, the Courante and Aria.

That Allemande is my favorite of all his Allemandes. The lyricism of that piece is off the charts. I remember when I learned it decades ago, back when I was a lad dreaming of becoming a harpsichordist. I once played it at night with the una corda. Nobody woke up! In the morning, my dad said he dreamt of being invited to a palace by a musician who played that piece. Probably my most cherished musical memory.

Wow, that's a great memory! I don't have anything close to your history with this, but your experience will motivate me to do a deeper dive with this.  I really like this Allemande a lot, so that helps.  Did you play the whole Partita on harpsichord?

Have you ever played a harpsichord?

Even though harpsichord music was my first piano-related passion, I sadly didn't have access to a harpsichord until some 10 years later, by which time I had moved on to my next passion, the typical piano virtuoso repertoire (romantic and late romantic). But when I finally got to try a harpsichord, I played quite a few of Bach's partita dances, including the aforementioned Allemande, with the most kitschy ornaments one could imagine, trilling every long note, delaying every right hand downbeat after the left, "notes-inĂŠgales'ing" every diatonic passage (mostly inappropriate in Bach, I know now), all the harpsichord clichĂŠs. And I loved it. But not to the point of abandoning the piano😅. Perhaps if I had had access at an earlier stage, when I still had the desire and courage to learn the true stylistic elements of baroque harpsichord playing instead of resorting to caricature, perhaps there would be a magnificent replica of a harpsichord where there dwells my beloved Baldwin concert grand now? Perhaps!
