ABOUT TONEBASE COMMUNITY CONCERTS:

These events are NOT live-streamed OR recorded, but are private zoom meetings where tonebase members can share their hard work and perform for each other!

These concerts can be played LIVE, or if you can't attend, you can submit a recording!

This is a GENEROUS and SUPPORTIVE space.

Performing is one of the best ways to push yourself, and really evaluate the work/progress you have made!

Repertoire is open to any piece!

Memorization is NOT required.

You can play select movements, or even sections of pieces! No need to perform a complete work!

Playing the piano is fun, but sharing your music with others is one of life's great joys. Join in on the fun and cheer each other on!

FOR OPTIMIZING YOUR ZOOM SETTINGS PLEASE SEE THE SHORT VIDEOS BELOW!

Because we use zoom for these concerts, it is important to have the best audio and visual settings available!

  • I would like to play a piece that is about 6 minutes long; I don't know yet if it'll be ready, so I'll confirm closer to the date of the recital.

Update: I've decided on a piece. I'll play Franz Liszt's Elegy "Die Zelle in Nonnenwerth" - The Cloister Cell in Nonnenwerth [= an island in the river Rhine]. Looks like this will be a somewhat Liszt-heavy concert! 🙂

  • I have a piano competition (Russian Music) on Saturday, Dec. 2. If this Community Concert remains on Friday, Dec. 1, then I can play my competition piece: Scriabin, Etude C#minor, op. 2 no. 1. (If it is moved to Saturday, then I won’t be able to participate.)

If anyone is interested, here is video I took from Thurmond's performance at the competition on Saturday last. This was his first in-person competition, and he's already excited to prepare for another one. He's wearing 19th century period-appropriate attire, too (complete with a pocketwatch)!

  • Hi all,

I would to play Liszt’s transcription of Das Wandern, one of Schubert’s songs and also something short and Christmassy if that’s okay!

  • I'd like to submit recording of Brahms own piano transcription of Poco Allgretto from his 3rd Symphony. As it will be 3 am in Asia, can I  still get an archival recording of the concert to watch?

    • Ching Lee Goh Yes! the archival will exist. You can submit the recording here!

Ching Lee Goh I hope we get to hear you play this piece Ching Lee. I didn't know Brahms prepared a transcription of this very beautiful movement, one of my favorites of any symphony..

      good luck practicing.

  • Yihan will perform Chopin Barcarolle, if he's in school during this time, it will be a recording

    • Dominic Cheli Yihan will be in  school at the concert time, so I'll message you with the Youtube link.  The piece is dedicated to the ones who cannot go home because of war, and for the ones yearning for adventure but never got to it

  • Hi,
What a great idea of online concert! It is such a pity that I cannot join because it will be 3AM in Asia time zone. Hopefully in the near future, there will be a specific concert for Asia users.

Good luck to everyone, and enjoy.

I will be at a training camp on Friday without a piano. For the first time in 40 years, I performed Fantaisie-Impromptu on Monday in a seasonally decorated venue and have uploaded the recording. Where can I submit the link, Dominic Cheli ?

Alas, I have a meeting at the same time.  So here's a video of Debussy with holiday lights, if you have time to include it in the concert.

Gail Starr love it Gail! the lighting adds to the mood, and you are really caressing the notes.  Such a beautiful piece, I never tire of hearing it, especially played so sensitively.  The SOUND of your recording is also very lovely.  You'll have to tell us how you capture that someday. I'm sure it helps to start with a beautiful instrument, but I know there's a lot more to it...
