The enthusiasm of composition

I think the best way to acquire skills/competency is to get the pianists together somewhere and just play, to acquire a musical instinct that the atmosphere of the group will bring. What do you think? 🙂

  • I think it's important to play a piece more with the head, which gives the general direction of where the piece is going, than with the hands. The hands are only the messengers that allow the physical transmission of sounds, but the head is the central element that gives the central vision that will produce the piece from one end of the performance to the other.
In the same way, playing with others in unison to achieve something exciting for the mind is an experience that should be embraced by musical circles.

  • I completely messed up where to put this topic, it should be in the general discussion section I think. Sorry for the trouble.

If I were to ever develop a “method” of collaborative playing, there would be a preparation to the music making. I mean, there would have to be a period of time before making music together where the two (or however many) personalities are intermingled and become known by the other, as much as we can “know” another. And then, after a week of silence together, coffee together, maybe a hike or two - sit at your instrument, and play!

    • Will Green I think that would be a good thing to put in place although it is goingto be very hard to implement. At some point in your journey to get better, you're going to need collaboration. Doing things in isolation without the criticism, the cheering of your peers is the worst thing for a musician.
