Thank you to Jarred Dunn who is one of the most thoughtful, knowledgeable teachers. I always learn so much from his insightful, sensitive understanding. It was intriguing to learn the background and meaning of the title "A Lullaby for my Sorrows". I also took note of the book he mentioned: Johannes Brahms: Life and Letters edited by Styra Avins. Jarred's deep and intense approach to music is always evident.
The way Jarred articulated in the piece Juan Carlos played, the anguish or profound emotional state that Brahms was expressing was extremely interesting and how it differs from others in the way Brahms chose to end it.
And his love of Brahms's music, in particular, shines throughout. I enjoyed this quote that I'd like to highlight:
"That's why I love Brahms so much is that on all his recaps, the second parts of the pieces, you can show a new voicing...and in Brahms, counterpoint for me, God, that's everything. That's why I love everything he wrote." Jarred Dunn
I am glad Jarred was open in sharing his private thoughts about why he chooses to play Brahms (the secret melody) as he does with our community. Yes, we are all quite friends in this community, as Jarred said. Thank you!
As always, Juan Carlos, I enjoyed your playing. I also enjoyed your playing, too, Yuchao. Thank you both!
Thank you, Dominic! You are always an enthusiastic, skilled, and appreciative presenter.
