Thurmond R Very nice... I particularly liked your rubato approach. I played this many years ago and I think I played it very stiffly - this recording is so free. Well done.

    • Juan Carlos Olite Thank you very much! Making the melodies sing was my goal when working on this, so it's nice to see that you noticed it.

    • Ken Locke Thank you! Since Chopin was known for loving Bel Canto singing, I had been listening to Maria Callas and trying to emulate her style of rubato.

    • Alexander Weymann Thank you very much! I was trying to emulate the Bel Canto style Chopin loved so much (using Callas as a reference), so I'm glad to hear I got the emotional side of it!

    • Vidhya Bashyam Thank you for your wonderful comment! Blankets are such a wonderful invention, are they not?

    • Sindre Skarelven Thank you very much! It seems to me that producing such a singing melody is the "etude" part of this etude, so I'm glad you noticed it.

Alright, I was able to make a better recording - at least the sound is better quality. Thanks so much for this challenge!

This is "By the Seaside" by Jean Louis Straebbog (or Gobbearts).

  • Dominic Cheli . Here is my submission for the challenge. I have studied Hungarian rhapsody #2 for a good part of last year. It is a piece i have always wanted to learn when i was a kid for obvious reasons but could not really because of technical difficulty. As an adult i gave it try. Still working on it but it here it is.

  • Here is the 4.movement from Schubert sonata i A-major d959. I started it a little before Christmas as part of a goal to learn the whole sonata this winter.

I'm a bit hesitant to share this now, since it's still a work in progress, and I made some silly mistakes in the recording. Still, I had a goal to record it for the challenge, so here it is.

    • Sindre Skarelven lovely playing; thank you for sharing this music! D 959 is my favorite Schubert sonata; it is also the only one I've ever played (decades ago). I remember well how hard this piece is, so my hat is off to you for this accomplishment.

Sindre Skarelven Bravo! I really enjoyed that performance. The melodies are so graceful1  I'm so glad you posted it.  I can't help but notice you said you started learning this before Christmas? Meaning a month ago or less?  Doubly impressed.
