Colors and Sound!

My student, who has perfect pitch, told me that when he hears a note he associates the sound with a certain color.

No, but I have a friend he does see color.

       I sort of feel colors... Different keys have different attributes, which I know but can't always recognize when listening. A Major is very red, and somewhat fiery; A minor is also red. B flat Major is a happy, grand and somewhat marine blue. B flat minor is a more muddy blue, and very tragic. B Major is very rich, and somewhat greenish. C Major is white and pure, C minor I'm not quite sure about... Maybe grey? C# minor is a nocturnal blue, and just generally of the night. D flat Major is calm and tranquil, a forest green. D Major is vibrant green, D minor marble and classical (Greek statues come to mind). E flat Major heroic, noble, kind of an orange-ish color.. E flat minor the same color, but more tragic. E Major brighter, more of a yellow than the flat. E minor is also yellow, very tragic. F Major is kind of purple, F minor dark green, almost black, imbued with elemental power. G flat Major is a less dark green.. F# minor is a sobered purple, very sorrowful. 

 G Major happy and green, G minor dark blue and nocturnal. A flat Major melodic, and a dark red; A flat minor a slightly deeper red. Flat keys are generally more "mature" than their natural counterparts, #s sharper.

There’s actually a name for that…it’s called Synesthesia. Helene Grimaud has it too.
