Hi Dominic Cheli,
I saw that you would be holding a masterclass on 20th May, 2022. Although I very much would like to join the event and participate, my current time zone makes it very difficult for me to do so. Would it be possible for me to participate via sending my recordings if there is still time left after other live participants have performed? It would be much appreciated if you could offer me some advice on my playing!
With thanks,
Alice Yip

Dominic Cheli Many thanks as always for the lovely session. You mentioned editions for Rachmaninov. I am not sure if you’ve seen the Alfred edition (I think ed. by Murray Baylor) where he distributes the hands significantly for the Op.23 No.4 which Dan performed (beautifully!!). Could you perhaps comment on that when you get a chance? I’ll attach the score here too…
Thanks!
Parag
Edit: I was looking at the Wikipedia entry for the Op.23 preludes where I found an interesting note about the editions:
"Most editions of the Op. 23 Preludes contain significant editorial distortions in dynamics and phrasing. In 1986, Ruth Laredo set out to produce the first authentic version but was unable to obtain the original manuscripts. The Piano Quarterly praised Laredo's editorial practices, remarking that, "this seems to be the edition to own."
However, in 1992, Boosey & Hawkes published an edition edited by Robert Threlfall, who had managed to obtain access to the original manuscripts. This edition is widely regarded as the first truly authentic version.[7]"

I would like to be considered for the next MC but with recording and not memorized. I am working on memorizing one, had the other memorized mostly but lost it. Happy to do either or both. I will be on summer break so I should be able join the live stream from campus if I am not teaching piano students.
either or both are ready to record. Lots of dynamic I am working on, pedal control, touch, subdivisions, but overall… after learning, I have played both at studio classes. Trying to memorize the Shostokovich.
Shostokovovich Prelude 17 A flat Major Opus 34
Haydn Sonata 19 in E Minor Hob XVI 47 bis: mvt 1 Adagio
Thanks! Been watching recorded livestreams during the school year. So glad summer break is nearly here… other than a short summer session. But I will be joining a lot of sessions this summer :-)
