    • Sindre Skarelven One of my favorites! I'm trying to fix and re-memorize it now but I'll do something different on the 26th. Looking forward to hearing your interpretation.

  • I would love to participate! If possible, I would like to decide on what to play a little closer to the date of the recital. Whatever I end up choosing, it will be a fairly short piece, 3-6 minutes long.

    • O.K., I've worked so hard on my little piece for the "Unfinished Business Challenge" that a) it would be a waste and a shame to not at least try presenting it in this recital, and b) I have nothing else ready now, so it's not like I even have a choice. 😆

Sergei Rachmaninov: Étude-Tableau in F sharp minor Op. 39 No. 3. There, I said it.

      It's approximately 3 minutes long.

  • i worked on beethoven sonata pathetique second movement 2 years ago and then stopped because I am not technically ready for it. I restarted it this year and I think I will be ready soon.

    • rebecca LAM do you still have room for me to play today?

  • Long ago I learned and memorized Chopin posthumous Nocturne in C# minor, but I was always a bit sketchy/inaccurate in (1) the middle section that sounds a bit like guitar arpeggios, and (2) the final "A section" with coda including some fluttery runs. I'll focus on fixing those issues before the 26th.

This will be my first time (finally!) performing here in the Tonebase community and the first time in twenty years that I've played formal music for anyone other than myself. I'm mostly a jazz-rock pianist/singer/songwriter. Playing something fully composed by someone else rather than improvising my way through my own idiosyncratic chord changes is VERY INTIMIDATING TO ME. :-)

    • Sandhya (Sandy) Asirvatham Seems like we love the same pieces! Looking very much forward to hear you play this beautiful nocturne.
BTW I’m also specialized in jazz/pop/rock etc. Glad there are more people enjoy playing different genres!!

    • Sindre Skarelven Yes, nice to connect with a fellow jazzer/rocker. ;-) I had a fair amount of formal training in my teen years, but was never conservatory-bound--not single-minded enough to even consider it. I was in my late early thirties before I started to "unlearn" the potential crutch of note-based music: teaching myself to grab pop tunes off the recording, playing in cover bands, later on improvising, composing, etc. Along the way I occasionally burnished my formal skills and repertoire when I could, but now in my late 50s I have more time and freedom than before to give it some focus. It's so fun to go back to pieces I first learned in my 20s-30s and hear/play them anew.

    • Sandhya (Sandy) Asirvatham It’s very interesting to hear your story! “Not single-minded enough” certainly rings true for me too. I’ve pursued all kinds of different learnings, but my heart has gravitated towards learning classical more and more. When I studied in college I was able to study some classical, along with specializing in pop and jazz.

I checked out your website, I love your music and you have a beautiful voice too! That Mobtown moon album seems incredible. It must have been so fulfilling to finish a project like that! I will listen the whole thing later :)

    • Sindre Skarelven Sorry it took me so long to respond to your lovely message--and thank you so much for checking out my music. I'm honored.

Mobtown Moon was a beast, 3 years of planning/execution, 50+ musicians involved, $30K raised in grants and crowdfunding, I had a partner but did most of the arranging/composing along with all the business stuff myself, managed to fill a 1,000-seat hall for the CD release....I got to sing "Great Gig In The Sky" in front of that audience and fulfill a childhood dream.....One of the best nights of my life, right up there at the top of the list with our wedding day (still a great memory although I'm divorced, lol) and the day we adopted our son.

After it was over, I couldn't play or even listen to music for many months! Blissful but burned out.

    • Sandhya (Sandy) Asirvatham Wow, amazing project! The first song I put on was The Great Gig In The Sky, one of my absolute favorite and crazy demanding for the singer(s)!
I can understand the burn out, and I’m glad you got back into music after some well needed pause :)

  • Hi Dominic,

If it's not too late to sign up for the Community concert next week, I would like to play

Chopin's Ballad No. 1 in g minor. If I am reading the time correctly, that would be 8/26 at 11 am Pacific Time.

    Hi Dominic -

I would love to join the concert for the first time (I play piano for quite some time tho) with the following piece: Nocturne in B-flat Minor, Op.9 No.1

    Thank you!

  • I would love to participate but will be away. I'd like to record something to have it be included. Can you let me know where to send it? I'll be playing a Chopin Mazurka, Op. 17 No.4

    Hi there!

I’d like to perform Mozart a-moll Sonata, but unfortunately I can’t participate in the concert because I don’t have piano at home.

Hopefully, I will come to the meeting to hear other wonderful performances!

    See you there!
