  • Thank you for this challenge!  I’ve not done much Grieg.  I have been having fun reading through some of these.  I have narrowed down what am want to learn to 4 pieces, hahaha.  I’m not sure I can learn well all 4, but I’ll figure it out and let you know.

I'm due for a technical challenge, so I'll try Puck.

Marc M I just listened to "Puck"...it has the same challenges as the one I'm working on (Dwarfs).

Gail Starr Yes, the two have some similar patterns. (I enjoyed your practice video, by the way.)

I'm finding Puck to be easy to memorize but very hard to play at the absurdly fast tempo marking. It sounds good at a slower tempo, though, so for the sake of this challenge I'm planning on playing it below the marked speed. Will see if I can make a practice video one of these days.

Marc M Please post a nice & slow practice video.  The LH jumps in these pieces are challenging!  I won't be able to get mine up to speed in time, either.  Or maybe never, LOL?

Gail Starr The LH leaps in March of the Dwarves were one reason why I didn't pick that piece for this challenge. Kudos to you for trying--it would certainly take me more than a couple weeks to make those sound decent!

I did something a little different and posted a longer video of a practice session in the Week 2 thread: https://piano-community.tonebase.co/t/p8h4pjq#g9h4g2s

Once I have a better grasp of the piece I'll see if I can pick a steady tempo and go all the way through.

  • I am a bit late.. but... Wedding Day at Troldhaugen.. Where my love for Grieg began.

FYI, for those of you who like a good DVD, Leif Ove Andsnes made one, it is fantastic to watch and to get a good understanding of the composer himself.

  • Just finished listening to all 66 of these lovely lyric pieces many times. I think I will start at the very beginning with Arietta. Time permitting, I might play the last piece too- the Waltz, since it is based on Arietta. I have never played Grieg before so looking forward to playing and listening to everyone’s pieces

    • Vidhya Bashyam So many great pieces to choose from! Well done listening to the whole set! Arietta is a great choice! Op. 12 is a very nice introduction to Grieg.

Sindre Skarelven I love getting to know these little gems.  I never played any Grieg before.

Here's my first practice video of the "March of the Dwarfs".  It's really a fun piece but I clearly need to spend more time on it.

    • Gail Starr Great idea! 😂 Grieg certainly lived in a beautiful magical world. Reminds me a bit of Mendelssohn.
