Here's my first practice video of the "March of the Dwarfs".  It's really a fun piece but I clearly need to spend more time on it.

Gail Starr That's great Gail! I was never able to get the 5 note figure smooth, no matter the speed - unsafe at any speed! The middle section reminds me of my days in marching band. You march in, pause in front of the bandstand where all the dignitaries are sitting, and play your best piece, then march out. So I hear the dwarves marching in, they halt, and the the dwarf daughters come out and do a little sweet dance - then they march out...

Sam Smith Hey, I think we are playing the same dwarf “movie” in our heads!

DM me and I’ll show you a trick for doing those 5-note patterns.  I think you have my contact info from Utako’s group?

Natalie Peh Thanks! Are you learning a Grieg piece, too?

    • Gail Starr yes! I have been listening to many of the lyric pieces yesterday, all quite adorable. I picked opus 71, nos 1, Once upon a time, and 5, Norgwegian dance. My goal is to get Once upon a time ready by the end of the challenge, hopefully!

Natalie Peh Can't wait to hear you!  I'm traveling on tomorrow to see my son's new apartment, so I'll be in a hotel Saturday morning without a piano.  I'll make another practice video today of my Grieg to share with everyone on Saturday.

Juan Carlos Olite Thank you, dear friend!  I won't have access to a piano this Saturday because we are driving to visit our son in his new town, so I'll make another practice video today that we can watch on Saturday.  It SEEMS like a never am near a piano on Saturday mornings!

Gail Starr Really enjoyed listening on those pieces you've played. It's my first time to hear it. As for the first piece, I felt that you've brought the character to live! Well done.

Derek McConville I still have a ton of work to do on it, but I'm getting ready for a chamber music weekend and working on Brahms!

  • Hi everyone!  Here is the link to me practicing the last 27. Measures of Gade.  Something funky happened at the fz measure, but this is practicing, right???   Hhahaha.

I am making an attempt to learn all 4 that caught my ear.

Arietta, because it’s pretty and delicate.

Spring Dance, because I like it.

Gabe, because I like it, all the chord changes, and interplay of the melody between R and L hands.

Summer Evening.  It is different than what I normally would choose, and intrigues me.

So, stay tuned for more practice videos of the above.
