I'd like to submit a recording of Scriabin's Etude Op.8 no 12. It's the piece that motivated me to join Tonebase!

that is such an amazing piece and much too rarely performed! Horowitz played it wonderfully.

Indeed he did. And I think I first heard it on a recording by Perahia, which of course is also splendid.

Hi Dominic and everyone, happy new year !

because of the time zone , the concert ends up  being at 6am down here, so not sure I’ll be up to a live performance at that time  ( and other family members might object!)

I will try to join in passively..

in the meantime I submit the below recording for the concert , I understand that there is a jazz component at tone base

this is my own version of Fats Waller’s jitterbug waltz, the improvisation is largely spontaneous. The framework of the melody is a commonly found transcription from 1942. The chord changes are slightly different from the original , and are the ones usually played at a jam session

for those interested, I recommend listening to Chic Corea’s recording

This looks like a very full (and amazing!) program already, but if there’s still some open time, I would like to play “Cloches à travers les feuilles” by Claude Debussy, from the second book of “Images”. I started learning this back in August, for the Debussy challenge, but I am an extremely slow learner and it takes me much longer than 4 weeks to master a new piece.

Bravo, Alexander! Our wonderful project from the last year is going forward! Cannot wait to hear you play it!

I’m kind of interested to learn it as well, after having learned Et la lune… but the score alone keeps me scared. How difficult is it?

I have found it not particularly difficult to “sort of” play because it lies in the hand fairly comfortably. But it is a tricky one to play well and to bring out the shadings, the colors and the “magic” (which I still haven’t managed to do yet). Still, a very satisfying piece to play and absolutely worth the effort. For you, with your extensive experience in playing 20th century piano literature, it will pose zero problems.
