WELCOME TO OUR NEW YEAR COMMUNITY CONCERT

Let’s kick off the new year together with music, reflection, and shared momentum. This Community Concert is a chance to mark a new chapter—whether that means setting an intention, revisiting a piece you love, or sharing something that represents where you are right now as a musician.

Choose a piece that feels like a beginning, a reset, or simply something you’re excited to play.

How to participate:

  • Reply to this topic with your chosen repertoire

  • Record and share your performance, or opt to play live

We’re excited to hear what you bring into the new year and to start it together as a community!

General information and Guidelines below!

Reply to this topic with your name and repertoire selection if you would like to perform! If you don't know what you want to play yet, you can always just let us know your intent!

ABOUT TONEBASE COMMUNITY CONCERTS:

These events are NOT live-streamed OR recorded, but are private zoom meetings where tonebase members can share their hard work and perform for each other!

These concerts can be played LIVE, or if you can't attend, you can submit a recording!

This is a GENEROUS and SUPPORTIVE space.

Performing is one of the best ways to push yourself, and really evaluate the work/progress you have made!

Repertoire is open to any piece!

Memorization is NOT required.

You can play select movements, or even sections of pieces! No need to perform a complete work!

Playing the piano is fun, but sharing your music with others is one of life's great joys. Join in on the fun and cheer each other on!

FOR OPTIMIZING YOUR ZOOM SETTINGS PLEASE SEE THE SHORT VIDEOS BELOW!

Because we use zoom for these concerts, it is important to have the best audio and visual settings available!

Check out these videos depending on the device you are using!

fantastic work Astrida , I really enjoyed listening to this !

Takemitsu’s music is often performed here in Australia as he had a connection having visited here on several occasions and was inspired by the natural landscape of this country

wow, thank you for the insight! I’m fascinated by his music, but discovered him through Messiaen as Takemitsu was his pupil.

that’s really interesting because Messiaen also visited Australia where he   recorded and studied bird calls for use in his compositions

btw you should check out Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe , who knew Takemitsu , and whose music was also influenced by nature

lol. I realize I misread the date. 😆 I thought the concert is today, but apparently it’s just the end of January next year. Huh!  I’m too stressed out.

Yes, today was the "End-of-Year Community Concert", not to be confused with the "New Year Community Concert". But thanks for the early treat!

He barely made it to Chopin Foundation scholarship last year, so this is one of the requirements for the second year.

Looking forward to hearing those Preludes! I had the pleasure of watching Yihan for the first time at the concert today and was thoroughly impressed! It is great to see the younger generations being so committed to this incredibly difficult career path. Yihan is evidently doing very well, and seems to be burning with the heat of a thousand suns to make his place in the big stage. I am sure we will hear him in one of the future Chopin competitions!
