Which composer do you feel most "at home" with?

Which composer do you feel most comfortable with?

A lot of times we talk about our favorite composers, or most difficult music to play, but which composer always seems to bring you comfort and just "connects" with you?

  • For me, I think Prokofiev is always someone I love to return to, and just feel comfortable with! I can't say he is my FAVORITE composer, but I just feel great playing his music!

  • Chopin and Brahms, the latter needs a larger hand span but I really love his music, so intimate.

  • This question got me thinking and I realized that Dvorak is my favorite composer of chamber and symphonic works. I had never heard any piano music by him, but found an album of his complete piano works on youtube. There are some lovely pieces suitable for intermediate players.

  • Bach and Chopin ... though probably because I mainly played their pieces in piano lessons 20+ years ago and haven't explore other composers as much ...

Hi Dominic! Great question. Interesting to think about it. This year I have played and play a lot of Chopin. I love his pieces. But Chopin is not than one. The answer for that question is - J. S. Bach. When I play Bach, than I feel at home. He washes away everything and I think ,yes he speaks my language ‚. I have a new teacher since end of last year and he gave me some different pieces of different composers to find out what I can play and what’s good and where are my problems. And one time he gave me Bach Toccata in e minor. And I played it and he told : , Bach is fine, no problem at all,. 😇

  • For me, it has to be Bach. I feel most comfortable and happy playing Bach, not sure why

  • Playing Chopin always feels like coming home. No matter what I am working on, I can’t stay away too long from Chopin. Schubert is pretty close behind.
