Juan Carlos' Practice Diary

I think it will help me to write this diary like other members of Tonebase Community; at least one post a week (on Fridays). But I don't know if I'll be able of fulfill it...

These are my goals for the next weeks (and more 🤔):

1. Bach's French Suite nº 5. I love this piece, playing it makes happy because of its kind spirit. I'd like to play it by heart in a video.

2. Bach's Goldberg Variations. In relations with our "Long-term Challenge" in Tonebase. I'd like to play an abridged version (to begin with): Aria, 1, 2, 4, 5, 13, 18, 19, 30, Aria. I've been working on it for several weeks.

3. Of course, Chopin's Prelude nº 15 "Raindrop". I have to play it in the Inaugural Tonebase Community Concert.

4. More Chopin: Etudes op. 10 (1, 3 and 5).

5. And review other pieces so as not to forget them...

I know 🙄, that's the problem when someone as unorganized as me has to write something like a practice diary.

  • Nice to see your list!
I love French Suite 5 also! I would like to revisit it as well soon. I get mesmerized almost playing Bach.
It is hard to juggle all the music you want to learn, revisit, maintain. I make lists and then lose them for a while. I have several notebooks floating around, I like to go back and see the date I started and how long I worked on pieces, even though it’s not sequential. I hope I adhere to my plan a little more with this Tonebase diary!
Looking forward to hearing your Raindrop prelude!

Since I have not prepared yet to Bach's French Suite 5 or Goldbergs..., here I have a video of the well-known Chopin's Waltz in A minor (op. posth.). It was a beautiful surprise to watch in a movie (Desire for Love) that Chopin is playing this music for... George Sand: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htpskv7bA7Q)

So, one of the pieces I don't want to forget.

Susan Oh, Thank you so much, Susan! It was another challenge, I was a bit nervous... But, since you mentioned it, I have a question for you: Do you remember if there was some problems with the audio quality sound? Because with Zoom I couldn't use the Shure mic and I bought another microphone (Blue Yeti) and I am not sure if it worked good enough...

    • Juan Carlos I could not notice you were nervous. Congratulations for rising to the challenge! I admire everyone who stepped out and played on this first Tonebase recital for being so brave. I am always nervous when I perform. I think the mic worked well - I don’t recall any problems. I was focusing on how beautiful your phrasing was.

After having played this "Gay Printemps" to my friends, I've decided to make this video because Mel Bonis (1858-1937), French woman composer who wrote a lot for the piano, deserves that we play her music: beautiful, moving, elegant...

Andrea Buckland Vidhya Bashyam Michelle R Thank you so much, dear friends! Phoebe and Desdemona are extraordinary choices Vidhya, they represent the personal impressionism of Mel Bonis.
