Billy Joel Interview

Here is Rick Beato’s interview with Billy Joel in which Joel admits that he can’t read notation and has learned everything by ear.

He loves classical music and has managed to learn the first twelve bars of Rach 2 but gave up after that, lol, admitting that it’s too difficult to learn by ear.

He had $10/hour lessons as a kid, which was expensive back then. His mother forced him to practice an hour a day. I wonder why his teacher didn’t teach him to read music. Did he fake his way through every lesson?

I am only five minutes into the interview but find it delightful.

Wonderful interview. I watched it when it just came out. Kudos to Beato for asking great questions.

Yes, great questions. Rick shows up prepared. His respect and his empathy are clearly evident, as is his love for the music.
