  • I think that the response time of the support team needs to be improved.

I also think that any life stream should allow us to change the display format (like the lessons).

I see more and more emphasis on live events, mentorships, fast track and master classes but not enough on new lessons and perhaps adding the new instruments.

We need to have some organ related lessons or courses!

Hi Dominic Cheli , I sent the following email to the tonebase team but copying it here as well.
I cannot fully take advantage of the instructions and learn because of this missing feature.

I want to request a feature: Highlight notes and pedals during demonstration of a piece.

For example, while going through the video for "Happy Farmer", I cannot properly follow what notes are being played by the instructor and when the pedal is pressed or lifted while the instructor emphasizes this to be important for that particular piece. It's in level 2 (as suggested in the plan) but as a beginner, I cannot follow easily just by the sound of the music to know where in the score the instructor is playing and the contrast between the suggested and its alternative.

    Link to the tutorial: https://app.tonebase.co/piano/courses/player/seymour-bernstein-teaches-schumann-album-for-the-young?moduleSlug=seymour-bernstein-teaches-schumann-album-for-the-young-the-happy-farmer

I've noticed it so far in all the videos I looked at. In some cases, measures are highlighted which helps a little bit but still at an abstraction that is harder for beginners or late beginners, depending on the complexity of the piece.

  • The search engine.  Right now I am trying to find information on the 2-week intensive with Leann Osterkamp and it doesn't come up in the search results.

    • Angela French I agree. I am also finding it difficult to find access to one of the past live streams. Tonebase support is VERY BAD. It is slow and inefficient.

I would also like to understand what Tonebase did recently for early intermediate subscribers. Tonebase seems to be focussing on advanced users who are encouraged to pay high amounts of money for Fast-Track and Intensive courses.

  • Tonebase shouldn't automatically load the video of the next lesson within a course. Sometimes I go back to re-watch a lesson, and when I'm done, Tonebase immediately plays the next lesson, which I've already watched.  This next lesson then becomes a lesson which shows up under "Resume Watching", which makes it look like I haven't completed the course.  If we have finished watching the entire course, that course should remain marked as Completed, even if we re-watch specific lessons with the course.

Zee Yeng Yun Agree. I'd even prefer to check videos as "completed" myself. Just because I've watched the full video doesn't neccessarily mean I have completed it. Maybe I still need to practice certain parts.

Zee Yeng Yun I second Dagmar's agreement. Also, even if I watch through all the videos it doesn't always mark them as complete. So, consistency would be good and being able to hide videos I'm not interested in / or have completed would enhance your suggestion.

Very often I am unable to play continuously through prior livestream videos. If I pause, rewind or use the scrubber bar to relocate, the video will no longer play. I've had nice interactions with support before on similar topics years ago, but this remains a recurrent problem on any device.

Do other users have the same issue?  Might there there still be something particular to the settings for my network or Apple devices?  If this is a common problem with known solutions, perhaps those solutions could be provided in a support section of the interface, sparing the need to submit a support ticket.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Dominic,

I am from Indonesia and been having issues from accessing the video player.  Its only accessible by using VPN.

It would be very nice if possible to make it accessible to the Indonesian server.

    Thank you!

    1. I'd love to see the Resources section included in the mobile app. Scores, workbooks, etc. don't show in search results, or with their associated courses. Is this an iOS-version quirk?

    2. Offline access. I live in a rural area with frequent, days-long internet/phone outages and that would be a huge help.

    3. More accurate subtitles. Are they auto-generated?

tonebase has been life-changing and I'm so grateful for y'all!

  • I love Tonebase, but I would suggest to include the Screen casting function for the videos. This would result very practical when using the phone app to cast to a bigger screen.

How about fixing the "search" crash before working on improvements? The recently started thread on the topic mentions that the bug has been around for the last three years. I recently signed up and ran into it yesterday.

I鈥檓 new to Tonebase and coming back to piano after 50 years. I took the quiz and I am level 2, due mostly to vocal training and music theory in my youth. But there doesn鈥檛 seem to be a progression of lessons to follow, just a random assortment of videos, some of which seem too advanced for me. I鈥檓 also taking lessons with a teacher. I was hoping for more practice tips geared to a beginner level and a progression of lessons to follow so I can improve.

Personally, I would love to be able to watch the course videos offline without having to be connected to the Internet. If I'm traveling or on the go, I'd love to keep Tonebase with me wherever I go!

  • After we have completely viewed a course, please could we have a way to control whether it remains in the In-Progress section or moves to the Completed-Courses section. Currently my In-Progress section is cluttered by many courses I have viewed for backgrounding purposes but am not actively working on right now, and my Completed-Courses section lists at least one course on a work I am busy learning and like to review the course from time to time. Several courses that I've viewed are listed in both sections.

Many thanks. The quality of the courses is excellent.

    1. There are some challenges with the Android app. I am participating in a TWI and can't find the content. It's hit or miss if i can find the latest video and assignment. If i go to my profile and click on my previous post from the prior week, i can't get anywhere else from there.

    2. In general, it is difficult to find what I'm looking for. There is so much great content out there. I want to use it!

    3. I have a subscription for piano. I don't want to be asked to select an instrument every time I log in.

    4. If I have a window open, for example the TWI, if I go to another window on my Android, it closes the TWI intensive window and I have to start all over again to try to find it. This is quite annoying.

  • I am new to Tonebase, love the content and the courses are amazing.    I do find that the website is confusing with so many courses listed and different levels and categories of study.  It is unclear how to navigate within specific course modules.   I am taking "Arpeggios:  from Beginner to Virtuoso" with six modules.   Once I completed a module I had trouble getting back to a previous one within that course.   Also, my repertoire is between Levels 6 and 7, but I was placed in Level 4 after taking the quiz, probably because of my answers relating to theory and articulation.   I should probably retake the quiz, but I am learning details about articulation that I did not know before, so that's good!

Yes I'm new to tonebase too.

If you bookmark the course you can find it again... there is a way to find a section of the course... it gives a contents page.

    Please 馃檹

Video of piano hand exercises... Fundamental finger changes...

    Isolated exercises...

Comprehensive guided lesson... quick routine that could eventually be done in 10 minutes.... complete rudimental to advance guided workout for fingers changes... in one video to be done at the piano to warm up and stretch fingers...

I'm a beginner at piano... I want a lifelong routine  I can practice of moves to flex [.... if I did ballet, karate or tai chi etc you would do basic insolated moves] to get familiar with finger changes and strengthen my finger in preparation for what's to come.

... I seem to jump straight into playing pieces without warming up.  I physically limber up my body like Penelope Roskell says I just want some mindful exercises for hand / finger working way round keys of piano.

    Thank you 馃槉

P.s. I am deaf in one ear, and transcripts/workbooks ease hearing burden to understand material.

Also: It would really be appreciated if all lesson exercises/scores & diagrams discussed/shown in video are included in workbooks - the latter do not always have all materials cited in lesson e.g. all diagrams, score excerpts. E.g.  Circle of Fifths lesson. Mozart 's Nachmusik is a major key exercise without score included, but score is shown for following minor (Paganini), and the connections between circle of fifths diagram also not listed.

Also, for Piano 101, it says there is a workbook but none can be accessed/seen.

Like others, subtitles would further add accessibility for those of us with hearing issues or other visual learners wanting a printable reference to practice from.

Tonebase has helped my learning tremendously- and fills in gaps my teacher can't offer - thank you for all you do. Excited too about Music offering!
