My very first ever Grieg piano piece! This is Es War Einmal (Once Upon a Time) from Opus 71, No. 1. I am so grateful to be on this wonderful and enchanting journey!

(Please do turn the volume right up, not sure why the video came out a bit quiet)

I'm so bad at recording myself. Here is my dusting off of the Butterfly from Op. 43 of the Lyric Pieces. About forty years ago, my teacher offered to teach this to me for my Grade IX (RCM) repertoire, but I preferred to play Debussy's Reverie instead.

With Butterfly, I was never able to get the rhythm right nor memorize it.

I'm changing pianos so this is the last chance to record on my Boston (which has not been tuned this season because it is being taken away).

Grace nice playing, Grace! Thanks for sharing this. Grieg must have been fond of butterflies, to have written this piece :)

I played with Butterfly on my divine new piano so much that I was able to memorize it!

Here's a condensed version with no repeats. I also used a USB mic and no una corda (soft pedal). I can control the pianissimo much better on this piano, so maybe una corda is unnecessary. Does it sound any better?

Sindre Skarelven Absolutely beautiful playing, Sindre. Scherzo put a smile on my face, and I really enjoyed how you played Klokkeklang - there was a quality to it that I haven't heard from other performances of this piece. I don't know what that quality is, but I just know I liked it very much! Thank you for taking us on this journey through all the op. 54 pieces.

Sindre Skarelven stunning, as always! That Scherzo is so capricious and impish, and you play it with verve. The Klokkeklang is a really unusual piece, quite avant-garde for Grieg, and I love the haunting, quietly solemn atmosphere you are creating.

Sindre Skarelven What a wonderful and amazing job you have done in this challenge, Sindre! You have taught us the beautiful and diverse piano language of Grieg with this admirable journey through the entire op. 54. Bravo!

Sindre Skarelven wow!  Amazing and beautiful!  There is a carillon not all that far from where we live.  The harmonics of the notes Grieg chose for “Bell Ringing” remind me of that carillon.  Absolutely beautiful!  Thank you.

Jennifer Mehta Vidhya Bashyam Thank you Jennifer and Vidhya! Yes, the piano can imitate so many different sounds and feelings, and I think that comes out really well in this opus.

Vidhya Bashyam Thank you Vidhya, and Juan and Sindre and Jennifer.

I enjoyed learning that waltz. The middle section is difficult, you should probably slow it right down but doing that in the middle of a piece, is not easy either.
