Here's another take, with videography courtesy of my six year old daughter. [EDIT: link above in my original post] I'm at the stage where i feel like I can basically play each part well if I'm lucky, but each performance has some sort of flub. I suppose more practice will fix this issue.

Also, as you can see, my environment was a bit, uh, distracting...it is a taste of my life. (Four kids 9 and younger.)

Marc M that was fun and exciting! The videography added to the thrill if your performance! I especially loved the dinosaur! But seriously, all parts are sounding great!

    • Marc M that sounds very good! The videography style and different camera angles surely enhance the whole experience! I especially liked the close up of the piano hammers :)

    • Marc M this is NOT a "meh" performance! It's really good, with a lot of rhythmic drive and mischievous energy. But, honestly, it's difficult to pay attention to your excellent playing because of your daughter's prodigious cinematography skills... The crocodile's cameo appearance was cute beyond words. :-)

Marc M So very charming - both the playing (which I thought was excellent, great energy and determination!) as well as the videography. How wonderful to make music within the simple chaos of everyday family life. What a great example you are to your children. Thanks for posting this!

Juan Carlos Olite Michelle R Jennifer Mehta  Alexander Weymann Natalie Peh Vidhya Bashyam Jackie Thanks everyone! You all are very kind. The kids are good fun, and the lego dragon head addition was my 9 year old son's spontaneous idea, which happened to fit the mischievous character of the piece...haha.

I'm enjoying these challenges. They (and you all) help provide me with motivation to practice in a more focused way, kind of like how a book club helps motivate me to read more.

P.S. Jackie: I saw some of your practice video and see what you mean. Depressing the key slightly before playing, or otherwise playing very close to the keys, is helping me make that left hand quieter.  Thank you! I've also settled on half-pedalling the soft pedal at times. Going only halfway makes it softer without creating the thin, nasal tone.

  • And here is Gade.  I鈥檓 still trying to figure out all the recording.  The sound is better from the computer, but the video freezes halfway through (sound continues).  So this is from the iPad.  The sound isn鈥檛 as good, but it gives you the idea.

Jennifer Mehta Nice work! For recording, you might consider getting a usb microphone. When I want higher quality I use the Shure MV88 with an iphone...I've also seen the Rode NT-USB recommended, and I'm sure even a Yeti Snowball would be better than the standard microphones on our devices.
