The Sursum Corda is an inspiring part of the Latin Mass; the significance of the "lifting of the heart" unto God, very powerful, and can be done at any time.

Just wanted to share some thoughts on the Practice of life…

As I sit in my study, I am contemplating the pathetic (“pathetique”) nature of music; our sensitivity to the empathetic, sympathetic …

Well, why not die on stage?? I mean, die to YOURSELF completely.. forget who you are - immerse and implicate your identity within the notes!!

But don’t stop there! The notes themselves are identified with the Composer ……… BE THE COMPOSER !!! The pathetic (“pathetique”) comes full circle::

    Composer/Notes/Performer em-pathetique (“empathizing”) - with the - Composer …

Will Green I read this yesterday, and have given it some thought. It seems that freedom, true freedom, is needed in order to die to yourself. To use a sport analogy - the basketball player who has practiced and studied and crafted his sport finds a freedom of this sort when he can go on the court and not just play the game, but become the game. All that is basketball has become such a part of him, that he IS basketball - and when this happens, it is glorious to watch as he seems to see everything, to feel everything, to be one with everything on the court when he plays. He has the freedom to just let himself be.

Michelle R That's wonderful thoughts and feelings,, I've never thought about these detachments (almost a dissociation) with sports!!! But I definitely understand what you mean. Beautiful.

Will Green I think that these detachments begin to happen when we allow ourselves to find the "art" in whatever human activity we engage in - music especially, but also dance, sport, etc... . True art being something that only beings with a rational soul can create (or sub-create!). Something within art allows us to forget ourselves and find a foretaste of the divine.
